Spread Betting Companies

There are various spread betting companies in the market, mostly aimed at ordinary investors while others are geared towards professional traders targeting higher stakes.  Whichever category you fall into, it pays to do your research.  At Spread Compare we have summarised some key points which may assist in deciding which company to use.

IG Index

IG Index, the original IG Group company, was founded by Stuart Wheeler in 1974. ‘IG’ originally stood for ‘Investors Gold’


City Index

Based in Finsbury Circus in London, City Index is one of the oldest spread betting firms around. It was established in 1983, offers Contracts for Difference (CFD) trading and serves clients all around the world.


SpreadEX

Finspreads has a long history and has changed hands three times till now. First it was created by Sporting Index in 1999 who later sold it off to the IFX Group. City Index then purchased IFX Markets in 2006 which brought Finspreads under their control.


GFT UK

GFT Global Markets is closely associated with the US firm called Global Forex Trading (GFT) based in the US. It’s a division of Global Futures & Forex, Ltd., again based in the US. It was formed in 2006 and offers a range of spread betting opportunities to clients across the world.


TradeFair

TradeFair is funded and is part of the Betfair group but uses the underlying services from the London Capital Group and have over 2000 markets that can be traded on.


Shorts And Longs

Shorts and Longs is another name for Spreadex which was established in 1999. As such, they’re one of the oldest players in the market, though “Shorts and Longs” has been in existence only from September 2008.


ProSpreads

As a platform for serious investors, ProSpreads started in 2005 under the name of FuturesBetting. The London Capital Group purchased it in 2008 and changed its name to what it is now.


Accendo Markets
